Hyderabad, Oct 5 (PTI) Telangana CEO C Sudharshan Reddy on Monday asked DEOs in the state to take action against applicants who knowingly made false statements or declarations in writing in Form-6, 6A, 7 and 8, as per the rules.
In a communication to the District Election Officers (DEOs), he said the CEO’s office noted instances of bulk applications filed in Form-7 before the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), where it is also alleged that such forms are not genuine.
“They are, therefore, requested to issue necessary instructions that the EROs shall take action against the applicants who have made knowingly false statement or declaration in writing in Form-6, 6A, 7 & 8, as per the provisions of Section 31 of the Representation of People Act, 1950 and such action shall be preceded by an inquiry under Rule 20 of the Registration of Electors Rules,1960,” the CEO said.
The ruling Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM accused the BJP of submitting bulk Form-7 applications which the latter rejected.
Form-7 is a voter application form for objection for proposed inclusion/deletion of name in the existing electoral roll. Form 6 is the application form for new voters.
Alleging that BJP activists were attempting to remove Muslim voters’ names from electoral rolls by submitting Form- 7 during SIR, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday warned of a stir stronger than the one at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Telangana Congress has complained to state CEO Sudharshan Reddy that a Booth Level Agent (BLA) of BJP at Musheerabad here submitted Form-7 applications against 30 electors (which were found to be false upon verification).
Hitting back at Congress, state BJP president N Ramchander Rao has said no BLAs belonging to the BJP submitted any such Form-7 applications.
Rao said the SIR process is being conducted entirely by the state government machinery, and the Election Commission takes decisions on deleting votes only after conducting field-level inquiries into any objections. PTI SJR SJR KH
