The Joint Committee of Regulators (JCoR), comprising telecom operators, regulators, and financial institutions, held a meeting to discuss the steps to tackle the problem of unsolicited commercial communication (UCC), a PIB press release stated.
During the meeting, the JCoR discussed the use of 10-digit mobile numbers and landline numbers for making promotional calls, the use of 140 and 160 series by the principal entities for making service and transactional calls, and the role of the principal entities in preventing UCC calls and messages.
The JCoR also discussed the acquisition of digital consents by the principal entities through the Digital Consent Acquisition (DCA) system, which provides a simple and transparent process for acquiring consent from customers for online data processing, and the revocation of consent by the customers. The meeting also discussed the whitelisting of uric/anks/OTT links/call back numbers in content templates.
The Joint Committee of Regulators (JCoR), which is headed by TRAI, is working with telecom operators, regulators, and financial institutions to study regulatory implications in the digital world and collaborate on regulations. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Ministry of Consumer Affairs (MoCA), TRAI, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as special invitees.
