Hyderabad, Aug 5 (PTI) Telangana police on Wednesday launched the NextGen Dial-112 Emergency Response Support System, an AI-enabled integrated platform designed to provide faster, smarter and more coordinated emergency assistance to citizens across the state.

Speaking after inaugurating the upgraded system, Director General of Police C V Anand said the launch of the NextGen Dial-112 platform marked a major milestone in Telangana’s efforts towards technology-driven policing and citizen-centric emergency response.

He said Dial 112 serves as the first point of contact for citizens during emergencies and that the efficiency, speed and professionalism with which every call is handled directly influence public confidence in the police and other emergency services.

The upgraded platform integrates police, fire, ambulance, women’s safety, child protection, disaster response and other emergency services through the single national emergency number, 112, providing citizens with a unified gateway for emergency assistance, Anand said.

Telangana currently records an average emergency response time of about six minutes in urban areas, 15 minutes in rural areas and 10 minutes and 30 seconds across the state, significantly lower than the national average of about 18 minutes, officials said.

The Telangana Emergency Response Support System Dial-112 Centre operates round the clock with 164 trained personnel.

Officials said the migration of Dial 100 to the government-owned infrastructure at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre, along with its integration with Dial 112, has enhanced operational control, reduced dependence on external vendors and resulted in substantial savings in recurring expenditure.

The Interactive Voice Response system receives nearly 14 lakh calls every day, of which about 18,000 emergency calls are answered by call takers and around 7,500 incidents are dispatched to field units for necessary action, officials said.

An advanced call-filtering system screens unintended, child, blank, spam and silent calls, reducing the burden on call takers and improving the efficiency of emergency response, they said.

A total of 1,860 patrol vehicles — comprising 788 four-wheelers and 1,072 two-wheelers — have been digitally integrated with the platform across all 31 police units in Telangana.

The system automatically identifies and recommends the nearest available patrol vehicle, enabling faster deployment, better utilisation of field resources and closer monitoring of response from the receipt of a call until its closure.

Advanced location technologies have strengthened the call centre’s ability to identify callers who are unable to clearly communicate their location during emergencies.

Officials said the location of about 94 per cent of callers is identified through Location-Based Services, five per cent through digital mapping, and the remaining one per cent through Advanced Location Services. PTI VVK SJR VVK SSK
