Hyderabad, Oct 25 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will meet his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis on Monday to resolve clearance issues over the proposed Tummidihetti barrage.

Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and officials, will meet Fadnavis at the Sahyadri state guest house in Mumbai, a press release said on Sunday.

The Telangana government has proposed building a barrage across the Godavari River at Tummidihetti, on the interstate border.

Telangana is seeking Maharashtra’s consent as the proposed barrage would result in submergence in the neighbouring state.

On September 29, Revanth Reddy met Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil in Delhi and urged him to facilitate talks with the Maharashtra government to resolve the inter-state clearance issues concerning the project.

The CM told Patil that Telangana had submitted a proposal to Maharashtra and urged the Centre to expedite an agreement between the two states to build the barrage at a full reservoir level (FRL) of 152 metres.

The project has been stalled over the proposed height of the barrage. Maharashtra had earlier agreed to a height of around 148 metres, while Telangana wants a level of 150-152 metres to improve irrigation coverage.

Revanth Reddy said an FRL of 152 metres would allow water to flow to the Yellampalli project by gravity, reducing electricity consumption and pumping costs.

The barrage is intended to revive the irrigation objectives of the Pranahita-Chevella scheme, which aims to supply water to northern Telangana. PTI SJR SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
