Dharamshala, June 28 (PTI) Two persons including a teenage girl have been arrested for alleged drug peddling, in two separate cases in Himachal Pradesh’s Nurpur, police said on Sunday.

A total of 1.06 kg of cannabis and 16.41 grams of ‘chitta’ (adulterated heroin) have been recovered from the two accused, they said.

In the first case, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team of Nurpur police arrested a 19-year-old girl with 1.06 kg of cannabis. The accused has been identified as Gungun (19), a resident of Palampur in Kangra district.

Acting on a tip-off that a young girl was travelling in a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus with a significant quantity of cannabis, a police team intercepted the bus near Jassur and checked the passengers.

During the checking, police found the accused woman in possession of the contraband, after which she was arrested, an official said.

In another operation, police arrested a Punjab resident with 16.41 grams of chitta from Jassur. The accused has been identified as Karan Kumar (24), resident of Amritsar.

A police patrol team intercepted the accused based on a suspicion and subsequent checking revealed he was in possession of narcotics, police said, adding that he was arrested on the spot.

Nurpur’s Superintendent of Police Ilma Afroz said two separate cases under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway. PTI COR ARB ARB
