Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 21 (PTI) A 17-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after being harassed for money in connection with a love affair, with police registering an FIR against five people, including the girl he was allegedly in a relationship with, an official said on Monday.
Circle Officer (Tilhar) Vidyut Saxena told PTI that the incident took place in Shimra Dabhoura village under the Garhia Rangin police station area on Sunday.
The officer said the minor had been in a relationship with a 19-year-old woman for some time. The woman had allegedly taken Rs 2.5 lakh from him and was demanding another Rs 1 lakh, following which the teenager, allegedly distressed by the demand, consumed a poisonous substance.
His family took him to Bareilly for treatment, where he died during treatment, Saxena said.
The matter came to light on Sunday when the family was taking the teenager’s body for cremation. The family stopped in the village and refused to proceed with the cremation, demanding registration of a case, following which police learnt about the circumstances surrounding his death, the officer said.
Preliminary investigation has found that the deceased was a minor and had been in a relationship for some time with his sister-in-law’s sister, Saxena said.
The two later stopped communicating, but the teenager allegedly continued calling her. Her family subsequently visited his house and expressed their displeasure over the calls, he said.
An FIR has been registered against five people Deepu, Jograj, Surendra, Madanpal and the woman under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment of suicide), Saxena said.
