Chennai, Jul 11 (PTI) Leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu expressed grief over the deaths in the Vietnam boat tragedy in which at least 15 Indians, including 10 people from Tamil Nadu, died on Saturday.
Extending his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the tragedy, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran said, “The tragic news of a tourist boat capsizing in the waters near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, carrying 36 people including 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one guide, is deeply saddening.” “It is heartbreaking to learn that 15 people, including Murugaprabhu of Palani, Tamil Nadu, have lost their lives in this unfortunate accident,” he said in a post on X.
“With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this unforeseen tragedy. I pray to the Almighty to grant them strength during this difficult time. I also pray for the speedy and complete recovery of the 21 injured persons undergoing treatment and wish them a safe return home,” he added.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar “for their prompt response and for extending timely assistance and support to the affected Indian citizens”.
He also said, “I assure that the Government of India will continue to work closely with the Government of Tamil Nadu to ensure the safe and dignified repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased from Tamil Nadu and provide every possible assistance to their families”.
Senior DMK leader and MP Kanimozhi, in a post on “X” said, “The news of the tragic tourist boat capsize accident in Vietnam, which claimed the lives of 8 tourists from Tamil Nadu, is deeply distressing. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.” Former State Congress president Selvaperunthagai K also said, “I was deeply shocked and distressed to hear the tragic news that 15 Indians, including several Tamils from Tamil Nadu, lost their lives in a horrific boat accident in Vietnam”.
“Furthermore, I urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to take swift action to bring the bodies of the deceased back to Tamil Nadu quickly and safely, and to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families.”, he added.
BJP leader Narayanan Thirupathy, in his post on X, said, “”It is very sad and unfortunate that our people went there and lost their lives. The Indian government is making every possible effort. We are in constant communication with the Indian Embassy there, as well as the consulate and the Vietnamese authorities. Every effort should be made to ensure the safety of the remaining people and to bring back the bodies of the deceased. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss in his condolence message on a social media post said, “The news that more than 15 people, including ten people from Tamil Nadu, lost their lives in a terrible boat accident that occurred this evening in Vietnam is deeply shocking and distressing.
