Jalandhar, Jul 5 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said that society must collectively resolve to build a drug-free and educated community while pursuing systemic reform and nation-building.

“Only then can meaningful contributions be made towards creating a society rooted in service, respect and values,” Saini said.

He made his remarks while addressing a ceremony dedicated to the “Dikshant and Seva Samman” of Sant Piyush Muni Maharaj in Jalandhar.

On the occasion, the Jain Sabha honoured Saini by presenting him with a shawl, turban and a memento.

Saini said that social organisations are shaping the future of society by spreading awareness against drug abuse, promoting girls’ education, helping poor families and strengthening family values.

“Saints have shown the path of truth, non-violence, discipline, service and dedication, and people must draw inspiration from their lives,” he said.

He said that the soil of Punjab carries the wisdom of the Gurus, the sacrifices of martyrs, the hard work of farmers and the fragrance of brotherhood.

“The relationship between Punjab and Haryana is not merely one of geographical boundaries but one of shared hearts and emotions,” he said. While addressing a public gathering later, he said that Punjab is burdened with a debt of over Rs 4 lakh crore and that the average debt per person has crossed Rs 1.25 lakh.

Saini said that the Aam Aadmi Party had made tall promises of eliminating drug abuse, but “Punjab today is grappling with drug addiction and gangster culture”.

He added that the BJP government in Haryana has provided positive opportunities to youth through employment generation, skill development initiatives and sports policies.

“Punjab is known as the land of farmers, yet its farmers continue to face repeated issues and uncertainty regarding crop procurement, payments and mandi operations,” he said. Comparing Haryana and Punab’s employment rate, Saini claimed that Punjab’s unemployment rate stood at 8.8 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2025-26, asserting Haryana was providing opportunities to its youth, “while Punjab is witnessing only hollow promises”.

Saini said that Jalandhar is a national hub for the sports goods industry, handicrafts, leather industry and MSMEs.

“Sporting equipment manufactured in this globally renowned Sports City has carried India’s pride to major sporting arenas across the world,” he said. The CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, local industries have received new strength through the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and the Mudra Yojana.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, modernization work at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station has been completed, while redevelopment of the City Railway Station is progressing rapidly, he said.

He said that major infrastructure projects such as the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway have significantly strengthened Jalandhar’s connectivity with key economic centres of the country. PTI SUN KSI KSI
