New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the “system has failed” and it is the duty of the party to provide help to fellow citizens suffering due to sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in the country.

His comments came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme said the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the country and assured people that the Centre was working with all power to help the states.

“System’ failed, so it’s important to do Jan ki baat,” Gandhi said on Twitter.

“In this crisis, the country needs responsible citizens. I request my Congress colleagues to leave all political work — just provide all help and ease the pain of our countrymen,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the truth about the pandemic is shrouded and deaths are being under-reported.

“Shroud the truth. Deny oxygen shortage. Underreport deaths. Government of India (GOI) is doing everything……to save his fake image,” he said on Twitter.

He shared the front page of ‘The New York Times’ showing a picture of cremations being conducted and headlined, “As Covid ravages India, true toll is undercounted”.

‘Deaths being under-reported’

Rahul Gandhi earlier alleged that the “system has failed” and it is the duty of the party to provide help to fellow citizens suffering due to the sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in the country.

His comments came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme said the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the country and assured the people that the Centre was working with all its power to help the states.

“System’ failed, so it’s important to do Jan ki baat,” Gandhi said on Twitter.

“In this crisis, the country needs responsible citizens. I request my Congress colleagues to leave all political work — just provide all help and ease the pain of our countrymen,” he added.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said “hiding data” and not sharing the total number of infections and deaths is doing a disservice to the nation.

He said the data, howsoever serious it may be, makes us aware and alert, and urged for a “course correction”.

“The Modi government has bungled up. If Modi government has abandoned its people and abdicated its duty, please do course correction and let us work together,” he told reporters.

  1. When will this ‘virus’ …no…. parasite is a better word …go away! The Indian people thought they got rid of him…but he somehow still get unusually more space in Indian newspapers. I guess the gravy dished out by his party to the media for the last 70 odd years must be so much that they still fee obligated. That is the only reason for such article highlighting the words of a looser …..that to .. multiple time over!!

  2. There will be lot behind the scenes. The Govt may not publicly say because it shouldnot create panic and control black market. If during this situation if there is any other party we could have struggled of black marketing. I dont think it is tome for criticism except support. If so why Rahul was not advised Maha Govt early lockdown or other places where they are ruling.

  3. It is interesting to see that the government did not blame Congress for the pandemic as ever.
It also interesting to note, that government is more concerned about the marketing of the vaccine rather than taking preventive measures

  4. Why is the Congress G23 silent? Not a peep has been heard from these guys for months. Is Pappu Ji now the sole Congress spokesperson?

  5. Rahul has been offering constructive criticism and very sensible suggestions regarding the COVID crisis since when it was taking roots globally, and before it even hit the country. The megalomaniac Modi , as his wont and personality, has chosen to completely disregard any such suggestions, whether coming from opposition or experts and has stuck to policy making on the fly. Like announcing a shocking nation wide lockdown at 4 hrs notice. even a cursory discussion with his senior bureaucrats would have allowed him to understand the serious folly of taking such a step. And now he has been busy for last 3 months with naked pursuit of power in states with elections, or otherwise in planning takedown of opposition govts. And the result is a calamitous national suffering! Ofcourse he doesnt care.

    • What your state Govt are doing are they not elected by you , are they only to enjoy the power without any responsibility, when Modi was fighting with epidemic same Pappu was Making all fun of him, is it only Modi who has to fight this , crisis do come and we have to face it , not like pappu who can only tweet and do nothing

    • Rahul criticism is right … he stumbles only when something should be constructed. The problem he pointed is correct … but what was his solution for first lockdown … that it is quick and one size fits all. Second lock down was decentralized …. but couldn’t contain. Neither Rahul’s solution is proper. We have two parties/leaders …. one self observant and another is ineffective. 🙁
