Gangtok, Jun 17 (PTI) The Sikkim government has initiated a survey for a proposed double-lane road that will link several Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) outposts in the state’s western part, officials said on Wednesday.
The project is aimed at bolstering border infrastructure and improving connectivity in remote frontier areas, they said.
A high-level team accompanied by senior officials of the Roads & Bridges Department conducted an extensive field inspection at Upper Ribdi Bhareng on June 16, an official release stated.
“The proposed road is expected to significantly improve border connectivity, facilitate movement in remote areas and strengthen infrastructure in frontier regions,” it said.
This link could also open new avenues for tourism development, while improving regional access and connectivity between border villages and tourist circuits, the release added. PTI CORR RBT
