Faridabad, Sep 1 (PTI) A class 11 girl student allegedly jumped to her death from the third floor of her school building here on Tuesday, with her father claiming that she took the extreme step after being punished by a teacher.
However, Principal R K Sharma of the Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School, Ghazipur Road, denied the allegations that the student was punished.
“Every aspect regarding the circumstances under which the student took this step is being examined. A clear picture regarding the causes of the incident and the issue of responsibility will emerge only after the investigation is concluded. A probe is underway”, said Inspector Sumer Singh, SHO of Dabua police station.
The parents of the deceased student, Janvi, claimed that she was scolded by her teacher as “she had gone out to eat biryani without informing anyone”, according to the police. They alleged that the teacher made Janvi stand in the school for four consecutive hours as punishment. Deeply hurt by this, she ended her life, the police said, adding that they are trying to find out the exact circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.
The teachers took the student to the hospital after the fall, but she breathed her last on the way, they said “Janhvi was allegedly punished by being made to stand in the sun for about four hours. She was deeply distressed mentally by this incident,” said the deceased’s father, Pramod Kumar, a resident of Pali village.
Meanwhile, the school principal said that Janvi was not subjected to any form of punishment. She had left the classroom after saying she was going to the restroom, he added.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Dabua police arrived at the scene and inspected the school premises.
An investigation has been initiated, and information is being gathered from the school management, teachers, classmates and family members, the police said. PTI CORR RT RT
