Thane, Aug 23 (PTI) Robust recovery frameworks are critical to fulfilling national climate commitments and positioning India as a global benchmark for sustainable textile manufacturing, Union Minister Giriraj Singh has said.

He visited the Textile Recovery Facility (TRF) in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, marking the Foundation Day of the Textiles Committee.

During his visit, the minister inspected end-to-end processing operations, including automated sorting, fibre identification, shredding, and secondary material recovery, aimed at diverting post-consumer and pre-consumer textile waste from municipal landfills, according to an official release.

Highlighting the importance of circularity across the textile value chain, Singh urged a greater focus on recycling to reduce reliance on natural resources and recommended expanding the project beyond the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) region.

A Letter of Intent was signed between the Textiles Committee and Refibre to establish a digital circular textile infrastructure platform. This initiative will focus on Post-Consumer Textiles (PTC) collection, traceability, and impact measurement, it said.

The Minister commended the collaborative efforts of the Textiles Committee, NMMC, SBI Foundation, and Tisser Artisan Trust in spearheading collection, sorting, upcycling, and recycling drives. He also lauded the integration of Kosha’s technology for fibre group segregation.

Emphasising India’s broader vision, Singh stated that robust recovery frameworks are critical to fulfilling national climate commitments and positioning India as a global benchmark for sustainable textile manufacturing. PTI COR NSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
