Kannur (Keralam), Oct 26 (PTI) An investigation has been launched after suspected steel bombs exploded at two places in Kannavam in this district, police said on Monday.

The incidents occurred between 11.30 pm on Sunday and midnight near the Kannavam Forest Range Office and at Chundayil, a nearby locality, they said.

Windowpanes of buildings in the area were damaged in the explosions.

Upon hearing the loud blasts, residents alerted the police, who reached the sites and conducted a search.

Traces of explosives were found on the roads, but those behind the incidents had not been identified, officials said.

Police said steel bombs are country-made explosives designed to cause a loud blast.

Kannavam police registered a case on their own under various sections of the Explosive Substances Act.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and forensic experts collected samples from the sites, while police were examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation, officials added. PTI TBA TBA ROH ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
