Itanagar, May 1 (PTI) The statehood day of Gujarat and Maharashtra was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Lok Bhavan here, with Governor K T Parnaik appreciating the contributions made by people from these states towards the development of Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing people from the three states working and living in the state, the governor expressed gratitude for their continued support and involvement in the progress of various sectors in the northeastern states.

Parnaik appreciated the valuable contributions made by people from these states towards the growth and development of the frontier state, according to an official release.

The governor highlighted that celebrating the statehood days of other states under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ vision has brought people from diverse backgrounds together in celebrating India’s unity in diversity.

Reflecting on historical and cultural connections, the governor recalled the deep-rooted mythological ties shared with the people of Gujarat, which continue to be celebrated even today.

He also fondly remembered the significant contributions made by people from Maharashtra in the social development of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the years following the 1962 India-China war, when the spirit of national solidarity played a vital role in rebuilding and strengthening communities.

The programme was marked by a rich display of cultural performances that showcased the diversity and vibrancy of India’s traditions.

May 1 is celebrated as Gujarat Day and Maharashtra Day to mark the formation of the two states in 1960. On this day, the Bombay state was divided into two separate states based mainly on language. PTI COR NSD
