Mohali, May 2 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday called upon the state’s youth to shift from seeking to creating jobs and said his government is actively building an ecosystem where young people can start their own ventures with full state support.
Addressing a gathering during a ‘Lok Milni’ in Mohali’s Saneta village, the chief minister said the need to migrate abroad in search of employment is being steadily eliminated as opportunities are being created within Punjab itself.
Drawing a contrast with the previous Akali and Congress regimes, Mann said while earlier governments hid behind the excuse of empty coffers, his government has delivered beyond its promises through clean intent and decisive governance, proving that the system was never the limitation but the lack of political will was.
He further claimed that due to the dearth of any issue against him, the opposition is stooping too low by levelling false and baseless personal allegations against him.
Mann added that he has been making strenuous efforts for the overall development of Punjab due to which the opposition was baffled.
“These leaders are not able to digest that the welfare of the common man and progress of the state is being ensured. Due to this, they are levelling baseless and irrational allegations against me, which reflects their desperation and frustration,” he stated.
“I might not be having experience of plundering the wealth of people, but I have an expertise in sharing the sorrows of the general public and resolving their issues,” the chief minister said.
He added that he is working dedicatedly for the well-being of the state and prosperity of its people.
“Due to this, the opposition is upset. Some of the political leaders are not able to digest these things due to which they are repeatedly spitting baseless venom against me,” he said.
“Such cheap tactics won’t deter me from serving the people of the state, and I will continue this noble task for the overall development of the state,” he asserted.
Alleging that his predecessors had never “bothered about the state or its people”, Mann said, “These haughty leaders always gave preference to their family and vested interests rather than working for the state.” He said that this attitude proved detrimental for Punjab and its people, for which they cannot be forgiven.
On his visit to Delhi, Mann said, “I will call on the President on May 5 and demand strict action for checking defection by the leaders as it is a grave disrespect of the mandate of the people.” He added, “Opportunist leaders change their parties as per their whims and fancies just for the sake of their vested interests which is completely wrong.” The chief minister said that such leaders backstab the mandate of the people, which is completely undesirable and intolerable, and added that a new law to check this is the need of the hour.
Seven Rajya Sabha MPs recently switched from AAP and joined the BJP.
The chief minister also took a swipe at the BJP, saying it does not have enough leaders in Punjab and may have to borrow candidates from other parties for the 117 seats in the state. PTI CHS PRK
