Jammu, Jul 28 (PTI) Samba Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anuj Kumar on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and upcoming Independence Day celebrations, directing officers to maintain heightened vigilance and strengthen counter-terror and anti-narcotics measures across the district.
Chairing a security review meeting at the district police office in Samba, the SSP assessed deployment plans and preparedness of police personnel during the annual pilgrimage.
The SSP instructed officers deployed at sensitive locations to remain alert in view the prevailing security scenario.
He directed supervisory officers to conduct regular briefings for deployed personnel to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures and effective response mechanisms.
The SSP also ordered intensified naka checking, meticulous vehicle inspections and monitoring of suspicious movements.
He asked officers to review contingency plans regularly and ensure smooth functioning of CCTV surveillance systems at strategic locations.
Reviewing the anti-narcotics campaign, the SSP directed officers to intensify action against drug peddlers, particularly at identified ‘chitta’ (adulterated heroin) hotspots, and investigate forward and backward linkages of active narcotics networks to identify suppliers, distributors, financiers and other associates.
Emphasising the need for tight security ahead of Independence Day, the SSP called for enhanced vigilance, strengthened security measures and seamless coordination among security agencies to ensure peaceful celebrations, and also for smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. PTI AB ARB
