Somnath, May 16 (PTI) The Shree Somnath Temple Trust in Gujarat is offering devotees the opportunity to book special ‘mahapuja’ at the renowned place of worship in order to join rituals both physically and virtually, officials said on Saturday.

The ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parva Vishesh Mahapuja’ will commence at 8 am with the principal Sankalp ceremony, followed by Dhwaja Puja, offering of ritual materials and a traditional procession of the ceremonial flag accompanied by dhol and shehnai, they added.

“The bookings for the puja started from May 11. The programme will include rituals such as milk abhishek, grain abhishek and Gangajal abhishek, along with offerings of sacred garments, Rudraksha mala and other devotional items to Lord Somnath,” he said.

Priests will perform the offering of 1008 bilva leaves, while Brahmins will chant 1,000 ‘Mahamrityunjaya mantras’ during the mahapuja, the official added.

“Devotees unable to remain physically present would receive a mobile link from the Trust to participate in the ceremony online. The Trust has arranged tea, breakfast, meals and two accommodation rooms at Sagar Darshan for yajmans. Additional facilities, if required, will have to be arranged privately by devotees,” he said.

An official release from the Trust said free transport arrangements have been made for devotees arriving at Veraval railway station during the early morning hours to facilitate their travel to the temple. PTI KVM BNM
