New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary Sudhansh Pant on Monday reviewed the implementation of key central government schemes and programmes in Mysuru, Karnataka, and stressed the need to ensure transparency and effective delivery of benefits to all eligible beneficiaries.

During the meeting with officials of the state’s Social Welfare and OBC Welfare departments, Pant directed them to reach out to potential beneficiaries at their doorsteps and provide clear information about various schemes and their benefits, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

The review covered the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY), National Action Plan for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) and Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), along with other schemes for senior citizens.

The progress of pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Backward Classes (EBCs) and De-notified Tribes (DNTs) was also reviewed.

The meeting further examined the implementation of measures to strengthen enforcement of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Schemes under the Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE) initiative, including comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging and welfare measures for transgender persons as well as the construction of hostels for OBC boys and girls, were discussed.

Pant emphasised the need for transparent and effective implementation of all central government schemes to ensure that their benefits reach every eligible person.

He urged officials to disseminate information about the features of various schemes and programmes and proactively identify and contact potential beneficiaries to facilitate access to government assistance.

Pant also undertook site visits in Mysuru and appreciated the efforts of officials and others in implementing government programmes in the larger public interest, the statement said. PTI ADI ADI KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
