Sultanpur (UP), Jul 11 (PTI) A human skeleton recovered from a canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district has been identified as that of a man who had been missing from Lucknow since June 18, police said on Saturday.
The skeletal remains were found near the Patipur canal bridge in the Shivgarh police station area on Saturday evening. Police took the remains into custody and sent them for post-mortem examination.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Sithauli Kala village in Lucknow’s Gosainganj area. His family alleged that he was murdered and his body was dumped in the canal.
Police said a team from Gosainganj police station in Lucknow was searching the canal near Patipur village at around 3 pm on Saturday in connection with the missing person’s case when the skeleton was spotted. Personnel from Shivgarh police station also reached the spot.
Shivgarh Station House Officer Parshuram Ojha said the body had decomposed completely, leaving only the skeleton. He said the remains had been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings were underway. PTI COR CDN MDO MDO
