Jamshedpur, Jul 13 (PTI) A human skeleton found buried near a drain sent shockwaves through a locality in Jamshedpur on Monday, with police launching a probe to establish the identity of the deceased.

Local residents spotted a suspicious object buried under the soil near a drain in Shantinagar locality within Parsudih police station limits. They were shocked to find that it was a human skeleton, a police officer said.

A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the remains.

“We have recovered the skeleton, which will be sent to a forensic laboratory for examination,” Parsudih OC Avinash Kumar said.

Asked whether the skeleton was of a man or a woman, Kumar said the body was completely decomposed, and only bones remained.

“We will be in a position to confirm whether it was a male or female skeleton and how old it is only after receiving the forensic and medical reports,” he said.

Meanwhile, police were examining missing person reports from neighbouring police stations and collecting information from local residents in an attempt to establish the identity of the deceased. PTI BS MNB
