Kolkata, Sep 7 (PTI) The West Bengal government on Monday said it achieved a “major milestone” in ensuring accessible and quality healthcare, citing significant progress in the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in a post on X, said the state’s continued focus on eliminating “out-of-pocket medical burdens” and strengthening health security was “delivering real, measurable results on the ground”.
According to the figures shared by Adhikari, over 3.23 crore beneficiaries across the state now hold active PMJAY cards, guaranteeing them financial protection of up to Rs 5 lakh each.
The scheme has also facilitated 31,541 hospital admissions so far, with patients receiving cashless and timely treatment at empanelled hospitals without financial distress to their families, he said.
The CM said 716 patients from West Bengal, including migrant workers and those requiring specialised treatment, have accessed cashless care at premier hospitals outside the state, leveraging the scheme’s nationwide portability feature.
“From expanding access in rural heartlands to enabling seamless healthcare portability nationwide, this scheme is fundamentally transforming West Bengal’s healthcare landscape into one anchored in equity, affordability and trust,” Adhikari asserted. PTI BSM RBT
