Kolkata, Jun 11 (PTI) The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee interim protection from any coercive action in a signature forgery case over the party’s choice of Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal assembly.
Justice Kausik Chanda, while granting the interim protection for three weeks, directed Banerjee to appear before the CID at its headquarters Bhabani Bhaban here by 6 pm on Thursday for questioning in the case.
Banerjee’s lawyer stated that the MP is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata around 4 pm from Delhi.
The matter will come up for hearing again after two weeks.
The controversy centres around a meeting called by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat residence, where discussions were held regarding the naming of the LoP.
Allegations have surfaced that signatures of several MLAs were affixed on related documents despite their absence from the meeting, triggering a political storm in the state. PTI AMR RBT
