New Delhi: Gangster Sachin Bishnoi alias Sachin Thapan, who is an accused in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder case, has been extradited to India from Azerbaijan.

Later, Bishnoi was brought under heavy security Tuesday to Delhi’s Patiala House Court which gave 10-day custody to the Delhi Police. The court directed the Delhi Police to ensure his safety and security.

The gangster had claimed the responsibility for Moosewala’s murder on his Facebook account, saying that it was done to avenge the killing of his close aide and Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera in August, 2021 in Mohali.

A team of the Delhi Police Special Cell had reached Baku to bring back Bishnoi who was detained a few days back in Azerbaijan.

Extradition is the process of returning the convict or accused to the nation he escaped from. India has signed an extradition treaty with 48 other countries while it has extradition arrangements with 12 countries.

Bishnoi had fled India a month before the murder of Moosewala in May last year. He had first fled to Dubai using a fake passport under the name of ‘Tilak Raj’. From there, he allegedly moved to Baku on 31 May. Originally from Fazilka town in Punjab, Sachin is related to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Sources in the security establishment said that Sachin knew about murder of Moosewala beforehand and had made logistical arrangements to flee the country. Another accused Goldy Brar, who is based in Canada, is said to have helped Sachin in arranging logistics to reach Dubai and Baku.
