Hyderabad, Sep 24 (PTI) A 57-year-old Sub-Inspector of Police, who was on duty for immersion of Lord Ganesha idols here, died after being hit by a two-wheeler, police said on Thursday.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who expressed grief over the death of the SI, directed police officials to take tough action as per law against the culprit.
The SI, who was crossing the road, was hit by the two-wheeler at around 3 AM on Tuesday, causing injuries to him.
SI K Venkanna, who was attached to Kothagudem Two Town police station, hailed from Warangal district.
The SI, who was posted on NTR Marg for crowd cotrol duties, was hit by a two-wheeler while he was crossing the road, police said.
Police personnel immediately got him shifted to a nearby hospital in the city and he was treated upon, a police official said.
“Since he was injured, he requested to go to home (Warangal), but later on he developed complications and succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Warangal on Wednesday evening,” the official said.
A video footage of the incident shows a two-wheeler hitting the SI while he was crossing the road and falling down on the road even as the two-wheeler fleeing.
The two-wheeler rider absconded following the accident, police said.
A case was registered at Saifabad Police Station, police added.
Condoling the death of the SI, CM Reddy said the police officer’s demise is a loss not only to his family but to the entire police department.
Emphasising that the government would support the family of the deceased, the CM instructed senior police officials to take stringent action against the culprit who caused the accident driving the two-wheeler with negligence, an official release said. PTI SJR SJR KH
