Chandigarh, Jul 2 (PTI) Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over his Bengaluru visit, saying he has left the state at a time when it is facing multiple challenges, including flood threats, financial stress and farmers’ problems.

Mann on Thursday left for Bengaluru for a four-day ‘Vipassana’ meditation session at a private wellness centre, party sources said.

His visit comes amid a relentless opposition attack on him after he was declared ‘Guru Dokhi’ (anti-Guru) by the Akal Takht over a video purportedly showing a man resembling him indulging in objectionable activities with pictures of Sikh gurus and slain militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

In a statement, Dhillon claimed that several parts of the state are witnessing flood-like conditions due to breaches in canals and distributaries, while farmers are facing inadequate power supply for paddy cultivation.

He also claimed that the state is sinking deeper into debt, government employees are protesting and women have been “betrayed” by the government.

Instead of addressing these issues, the chief minister has gone to Bengaluru for a ‘Vipassana’ session. This reflects the government’s misplaced priorities, the BJP leader added.

Dhillon alleged that Mann is working at the directions of Delhi rather than taking independent decisions in Punjab’s interest.

He claimed that the people of Punjab will no longer be influenced by the promises of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and will seek accountability from the government in the coming months.

The people of Punjab will give the present government a “permanent vacation” in the next elections, Dhillon asserted. PTI VSD DIV DIV
