New Delhi: shots were reportedly fired outside Punjabi singer A.P. Dhillon’s house on Victoria Island in Canada’s Vancouver Sunday evening.
A purported post from gangster Rohit Godara on social media has gone viral since, where he claims responsibility for the attack.
In a video, which ThePrint couldn’t verify, a man can be seen standing outside a house firing multiple shots. Sources said the clip and the post were being investigated.
In the viral post, Godara said the firing had taken place on 1 September at two locations in Canada—Victoria Island and Woodbridge Toronto. The gangster claimed the house on Victoria Island belonged to Dhillon.
“I, Rohit Godara (Lawrence Bishnoi group), take responsibility for firing in both the places,” the post read. Godara, whose real name is Rawat Das Swami, according to police sources, is allied with the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang.
Godara had also claimed responsibility for the murder of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi at his residence in Rajasthan in December last year.
With Bishnoi in jail, Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, both fugitive gangsters, have been running the gang from abroad.
According to the post, the firing was allegedly carried out after Dhillon featured actor Salman Khan in a music video. “We lead the underworld life that you guys copy. Stay in your limits, else you will die,” the post threatened the singer.
The Bollywood actor has been on the hit list of the Lawrence Bishnoi group over the 1998 case in which the film star and his colleagues were accused of shooting two blackbucks in Rajasthan.
The Bishnoi community holds the blackbuck sacred, seen as the reincarnation of their religious guru Bhagwan Jambeshwar. According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Khan is among the top 10 targets of the Bishnoi gang.
In April, shots were fired by bike-borne men outside Khan’s Bandra residence in Mumbai. Multiple threats have also been issued to the actor in the past.
In November last year, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had also claimed responsibility for firing outside singer Gippy Grewal’s house in Vancouver, Canada.
