Mumbai, Oct 12 (PTI) The Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged separate protests at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai on Monday, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Sena (UBT) workers and leaders, led by Aaditya Thackeray and his brother Tejas, staged a silent demonstration with black ribbons tied around their mouths.

They raised slogans against the CEC, while placards were displayed with the slogan “vote chor gaddi chod”.

Aaditya alleged that the BJP government came to power in 2024 due to “vote chori”.

“The agitation will continue across the country till the CEC steps down,” he said.

He said the detention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AISA president Neha Bora, and Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke earlier in Delhi was a testimony to successful protest.

He said the Centre denotified Jantar Mantar as a protest site as “dictators got scared”.

At the same venue, MNS president Raj Thackeray participated in a signature campaign seeking the resignation of CEC Kumar.

His wife Sharmila Thackeray said peaceful demonstrations should be allowed.

On Sunday, Aaditya and MNS leader Amit Thackeray staged a protest in the Shivaji Park area with hundreds of supporters, triggering sporadic sit-ins and sloganeering.

Aaditya had called for intensifying the protest at Shivaji Park.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
