SFI protests across Kerala in support of CJP agitation in Delhi

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 23 (PTI) SFI, the student wing of the CPI(M) on Thursday held protests across Kerala, including a march to the Lok Bhavan here, in support of the CJP agitation in Delhi and the alleged police brutality there against students.

The protest march by the Students Federation of India (SFI) activists to the Lok Bhavan here was inaugurated by Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Pinarayi Vijayan.

Hundreds of SFI activists shouted slogans against the Centre and demanded the resignation of Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan.

They tried to climb over the barricades set up by the police and faced the water cannons, refusing to back off from their attempts to reach the Lok Bhavan.

Thousands of SFI activists protested Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur and Kasaragod, among others, and faced off against several rounds of water cannons used by the police to disperse them, according to visuals on TV channels.

However, the police attempts were unsuccessful as the protestors continued to shout slogans even when being drenched by the water cannons and refused to disperse.

In Kochi, police also resorted to using tear gas shells, according to the visuals, leading to some of the protestors collapsing there.

The protestors also clashed with the police at various places as they marched to post offices in the districts.

Police were deployed in large numbers in all the places and had set up barricades to prevent the protestors from entering the post office compounds.
