New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) The Students’ Federation of India has formed an 84-member election committee and launched its “Dream DU of Dafli Gang” to outline the organisation’s strategy for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, the student body said on Sunday.
The meeting, in which Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists from 28 DU colleges participated on Saturday, elected Sooraj Elamon as chairperson, Nadia as convenor, Mehina Fathima as vice-chairperson, and Noel Benny as co-convenor of the election committee, the SFI Delhi said.
Polling for DUSU is on September 18, counting is on September 19, and results are expected that same day.
The election committee is tasked with formulating a strategy for the DUSU polls.
SFI Delhi also launched its “Dream DU of Dafli Gang” campaign, outlining its vision for “progressive and accessible education” at the university. The campaign will also focus on what SFI described as the “repeated failure” of the ABVP-NSUI-led DUSU to fulfil promises made to students.
The student organisation said it would contest the central panel of DUSU and field candidates in 10 colleges across the university. The Left-wing student organisations’ SFI-AISA alliance failed to win any seats in the 2025 elections.
The meeting resolved to take SFI’s “alternative politics” to students across DU, the statement said.
The organisation also linked its election campaign to the recent student movement at Jantar Mantar, claiming that the protest had led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
On July 25, 2026, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called off its 49-day sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar after Pradhan resigned and the government agreed to meet its key demands.
In the 2025 DUSU elections, the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) stormed back to power, winning three of the four central panel posts, including the president’s post. The Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) managed to secure only the vice-president’s post in 2025. PTI AHD ASD ASD
