Hajipur, Oct 13 (PTI) Several people were feared drowned after a boat capsized in the Ganga river in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Tuesday evening, officials said.

According to sources, most of those on the ill-fated boat were children.

The incident occurred under the Raghopur police station’s jurisdiction in Vaishali district, as people were on their way to attend a feast in a village across the river, officials said.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary condoled the loss of life in the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each deceased.

Despite repeated attempts, Vaishali District Magistrate Varsha Singh was not available for comments on the incident. PTI NAC SUK PKD NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
