Patna, Sep 7 (PTI) A three-day Gandhi Film Festival will be held here from September 9 to 11, featuring seven rare films on the life and ideas of Mahatma Gandhi.
The festival, jointly organised by Bapu Tower and the National Film Development Corporation Limited (NFDC), aims to connect schoolchildren, including those with special needs, and youth with Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and self-reliance.
The festival will be open to all free of cost, according to a statement issued by Bapu Tower, where the films will be screened.
“Students from various schools have been specially invited. The festival will open on September 9 with Richard Samuel Attenborough’s Oscar-winning ‘Gandhi’ (1982) at 11 am, followed by ‘Gandhi — Prophet of the 20th Century’ (1940) at 3 pm. Two films — ‘Mahatma Gandhi Talks’ (1931) and ‘A Boundless Idea’ (1970) — will be screened on September 10,” the statement said.
The final day will feature ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ (2005), along with historical footage-based films ‘Noakhali Extracts’ (1946) and ‘South India Tour of Mahatma Gandhi’ (1946), said the statement.
Bapu Tower, inaugurated by then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in October 2024, was constructed to spread awareness about the history, work and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and his long association with Bihar, which began with the 1917 Champaran Satyagraha against indigo planters.
The 102-foot Bapu Tower is a multi-storeyed structure housing three theatres, an auditorium, exhibition hall, office, waiting room, museum shop and canteen. PTI PKD MNB
