New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) The Seva Sankalp Yatra, undertaken to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life, entered its 12th day on Monday. BJP’s youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), national president Hemang Joshi said the journey is reinforcing the spirit of “seva” among the youth.
“These are not merely stories we hear along the road; they are experiences that stay with every seva yatri. The smiles, struggles and aspirations of the people give us renewed energy to continue serving society,” Joshi said.
He said the yatra reminds participants that “a long journey becomes meaningful when every kilometre carries the spirit of seva”.
“After travelling through villages, meeting beneficiaries and participating in service activities, listening to their stories brings a deep sense of peace and satisfaction,” Joshi said.
The Seva Sankalp Yatra is part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan launched on September 17, Modi’s birthday, to commemorate his 25 years in public life.
Born on September 17, 1950, in Gujarat’s Vadnagar, Modi turned 76 in September. He completes 25 uninterrupted years in public office on October 7, having first taken the oath as Gujarat chief minister in 2001 before becoming prime minister in 2014.
According to the organisation, the 21-day yatra is currently progressing simultaneously along 20 routes –10 in Madhya Pradesh, six in Rajasthan and one each in Maharashtra, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The yatra, connecting Vadnagar and Varanasi, seeks to take the spirit of seva to the grassroots through direct community participation and engagement.
On its 12th day, seva yatris undertook activities including water conservation, tree plantation, visits to old-age homes, gau seva, cleanliness drives, “Labharthi Samvad” and organ-donation pledges.
Several public representatives participated in the yatra. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini welcomed and flagged off the yatra in the state, while Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed it in the national capital.
Union Cabinet Minister Bhupender Yadav, Madhya Pradesh minister Rakesh Singh, former cabinet minister Pradeep Jaiswal, Lok Sabha member VD Sharma and MP Shivmangal Singh Tomar, among others, participated in the yatra-associated programmes.
A major focus of the day’s activities was “seva” and “Labharthi Samvad”, under which seva yatris interacted with beneficiaries and listened to their experiences of welfare schemes and public-service initiatives.
The interactions also provided an opportunity to understand families’ aspirations and challenges at the grassroots, the organisation said in a statement.
“From water conservation and tree plantation to serving senior citizens, caring for Gau Mata, conducting cleanliness drives and encouraging organ donation, the 12th day reflected the yatra’s continued effort to transform the idea of ‘Seva’ into action,” Joshi said.
