Gurugram, Aug 13 (PTI) Around 4,500 police personnel, including traffic police, are deployed across Gurugram district and 11 checkpoints have been set up ahead of Independence Day, police said on Thursday.

Gurugram Police have put in place a comprehensive, multi-layered security arrangement across the district for the I-Day security arrangement, traffic management, and to maintain law and order.

Special police deployment has been made at major celebration venues, VIP routes, entry and exit gates, parking areas and adjoining locations.

Major Independence Day celebrations are being held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-38; New Grain Market, Heli Mandi-Pataudi; Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Sector-43; Shaheed and Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium, Nakhrola-Manesar; and Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sohna.

The main district-level Independence Day function will be held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-38, where Krishan Lal Middha, Deputy Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, will unfurl the national flag.

Police said robust security arrangements have been made for VIP protection and public safety. Anti-sabotage checks have been carried out along VIP routes, while special surveillance has been arranged for roadside areas.

Police have been deployed at vital locations, including rooftops and outer cordons. To ensure smooth traffic movement during VIP movement, special police arrangements will be made at major road cuts, traffic signals, T-points, flyovers and underpasses, they said.

At all I-Day events, including at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, separate entry arrangements have been made for VIPs and the general public, a senior police officer said.

Visitors will be screened through door frame metal detectors) and hand-held metal detectors at entry points. Female visitors will be screened by women police personnel in dedicated frisking cabins.

Police personnel will be deployed on the rooftops of high-rise buildings surrounding the venues. Special surveillance will be maintained over the event premises, stage, parade ground, parking areas and adjoining locations.

Additional security personnel and quick reaction teams (QRTs) have been deployed at VIP stages and other strategically important locations.

“Around 4,500 police personnel are deployed and 11 major naka points have been identified across Gurugram district. Police personnel will remain deployed at these checkpoints from 4 pm on August 13 until the conclusion of Independence Day celebrations.

“Special checking of hotels, inns, dharamshalas, restaurants, malls and clubs will be conducted. Police teams will maintain continuous surveillance to identify suspicious persons and objects. Anti-sabotage checks will also be conducted at all major celebration venues and along VIP routes. Suspicious bags, luggage or other unidentified articles will not be permitted inside the celebration venues,” the officer said.

To ensure an immediate response to any emergency, five fire tenders and five ambulances will remain deployed at various celebration venues. Wireless communication facilities have also been ensured for effective coordination, police said.

“Independence Day is a festival of national pride and honour. Gurugram Police is fully prepared to ensure that this national celebration is conducted in a safe, peaceful, secure and well-organised environment,” Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj said.

Similarly, Faridabad Police have also made robust security arrangements to ensure that Independence Day celebrations are conducted in a peaceful and safe atmosphere.

“In view of Independence Day, interstate checkpoints have been set up at 11 locations along the borders of Faridabad district as part of special security arrangements. Police are screening suspicious vehicles and individuals passing through these checkpoints,” a spokesperson of Faridabad Police said. PTI COR SKY SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
