Meerut, Jul 17 (PTI) A 32-year-old private school operator was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district on Friday, with police saying prima facie evidence suggests that he died of a snakebite, though the exact cause will be known only after probe.

The deceased, identified as Atul Singh, a resident of Bhandora village, had been running Krishna Kids Play School in Hastinapur with his wife, Damini, for the past four years.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar said Hastinapur police received information about the death on Friday morning and immediately rushed to the spot. Teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the surveillance unit also examined the scene.

“A dead snake was recovered from the spot and has been sent to the laboratory for examination. Based on the evidence available at the scene, the death appears prima facie to have been caused by a snakebite,” Kumar told reporters.

He said the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination and the actual cause of death would be established only after the post-mortem report, the snake examination report and other scientific evidence became available.

The victim’s family has accused the victim’s wife of getting him killed by arranging a snakebite.

Kumar said police were examining all aspects of the case, including the allegations made by the family.

“No conclusion can be drawn or ruled out until the post-mortem report and other scientific evidence are available,” he said, adding that the investigation was underway. PTI COR KIS PRK
