New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) Flagging security issues, the Supreme Court on Wednesday junked a plea seeking access by the public to study the free and open source software utilised in the court’s case management system.

Though the source code of free and open source software (FOSS) is accessible to the public and is licensed to allow anyone to use, study, modify and distribute, firewalls have been installed due to privacy and security concerns.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said it was not inclined to consider the petition filed by an individual named Sunil Ahya.

“If the petitioner has any valuable suggestions for the improvement of the internal functioning of the Supreme Court registry or the establishment, such suggestions are always welcome. An endeavour shall be made to incorporate the same suitably”, the bench said.

In his plea, Ahya sought a direction to the apex court administration to align the administrative policy relating to the case management system of the Supreme Court with the licensing framework and governing principles of the free and open source software. PTI PKS SJK PKS KSS KSS
