SC collegium approves proposal for appointment of four advocates as Orissa HC judges

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday approved the proposal for appointment of four advocates as judges of the Orissa High Court.

The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant also recommended the appointment of an advocate and a judicial officer as judges of the Gauhati High Court.

“The Supreme Court collegium in its meeting held on August 18, 2026 has approved the proposal for appointment of the following advocates as judges of the High Court of Orissa: Sasmita Tripathy, Aditya Narayan Das, Rajjeet Roy and Gautam Misra,” said a statement uploaded on the apex court website.

The collegium also approved the proposal for appointment of advocate Nchumbemo Mozhui and judicial officer Helen Dawngliani as judges of the Gauhati High Court.

“The Supreme Court collegium in its meeting held on August 18, 2026 has approved the proposal for appointment of the following judicial officers as judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh: Santosh Sharma, Sushma Sawant and Sudhir Kumar,” said another statement.

The collegium also approved the proposal for appointment of Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, additional judge, as permanent judge in the Calcutta High Court.

One of the statements said the collegium has resolved to extend the tenure of additional judges — Justice Prasenjit Biswas, Justice Uday Kumar, Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta, Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee and Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi — for a fresh term of six months at the Calcutta High Court.
