New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday claimed that the Saket building that collapsed on the weekend was flagged by the MCD in 2015 still no action was taken against its owner.

On X, the party’s Delhi unit president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, posted letters written in the past, purportedly showing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials flagging the building as unauthorised.

“In 2015, MCD booked this 700 square yards building for unauthorised construction but no action. In 2021, on directions of High Court, MCD decided that construction is unauthorised and will be demolished, but no action,” Bharadwaj said in his post.

There was no immediate response from the MCD on the matter.

Bharadwaj alleged that between 2021 and 2026, the three-story building not only was not demolished, but “was rented out” with people living in it.

“In March 2026 on the basis of complaints, police forwarded the complaint to MCD about additional fourth and fifth floors being constructed making it dangerous,” he added.

The AAP leader also alleged that the Delhi Police had sent two written complaints in March this year about illegal construction on top of the building that collapsed.

“Delhi LG saab must answer, why is there no action against deputy commissioner Rakesh Kumar? Why should small fish like junior engineer, assistant engineer be the scapegoats?” Bharadwaj asked.
