Ratlam, Jul 2 (PTI) A man was arrested on Thursday for alleged involvement in a Rs 40 lakh theft case in which two co-accused posed as delivery partners of a leading quick commerce firm in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, a police official said.

Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told reporters that the arrested accused has been identified as Fardeen Khan (22).

“On June 30, local businessman Manish Patwa informed Station Road police that approximately Rs 40 lakh collected from various liquor shops belonging to another businessman, Gaurav Sharma, had been sent to his office for safekeeping. A manhad handed over the money to Patwa’s employee, Fardeen, and his father Firoz Khan,” the SP said.

Fardeen initially claimed that after counting the cash, he and his father were carrying it in a bag to the upper floor of their house when a masked man wearing a delivery partner’s uniform snatched the bag and fled, Kumar said.

“During the investigation, the behaviour of Fardeen, an employee of complainant Patwa, was found to be suspicious. Fardeen admitted to conspiring the crime with his brother Faiz Khan and friend Asbab. As soon as Fardeen received the money, he sent an ‘OK’ text message on WhatsApp,” he said.

On this signal. his brother Faiz and Asbab, a former delivery partner with a quick commerce firm, arrived at the scene on a scooter.

“Both were wearing delivery partner uniforms and fled with the bag containing the money. They had done so to conceal their identity and mislead investigators. The search for the two absconding accused is underway,” Kumar added.

The stolen amount has been recovered, he said. PTI COR HWP MAS BNM
