New Delhi: The Department of Science and Technology (DST) held a session Wednesday to lay the foundation of a comprehensive roadmap for developing a national science policy, a Ministry of Science and Technology press statement said.

The session — ‘Transforming science, technology, and innovation ecosystems of India’ — was held at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) in New Delhi.

It focused on research and innovation, equity and inclusion, entrepreneurship, technology development, translation, international cooperation, as well as science, technology, and innovation governance.

The speakers included DST Secretary Abhay Karandikar, INSA President Ashutosh Sharma, and other dignitaries.

The session aimed to identify specific policy recommendations to address the critical challenges in each focus area. The statement said the roadmap will help foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders.

The policy interventions in research, innovation, and technology development will be designed to create an agile and adaptive policy that can sync with the rapid changes in the science and technology ecosystem. The policy will focus on strengthening the basic science research ecosystem in the country which has the potential to lead to more discoveries and inventions.
