Mathura, Jun 27 (PTI) A case has been registered against RLD national general secretary Trilok Tyagi under the SC/ST Act for allegedly referring to the Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission as the “Harijan Aayog” during a party workers’ conference, police said on Saturday.

The FIR was registered at the highway police station in Mathura following directives of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, SHO Prashant Kapil said.

The action follows a written complaint filed by Rajendra Prasad, chairman of the All India Federation of SC/ST Organisations and a resident of Saraswati Vihar, Gurugram.

Prasad alleged in the complaint that while addressing a meeting of the party’s state executive and a workers’ conference at a hotel on Saunkh Road on May 27 last year, RLD national general secretary Trilok Tyagi used the “derogatory” and “objectionable” term “Harijan Aayog (commission)” to refer to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission.

He said in the complaint that the matter had previously been reported to police but was not addressed. Subsequently, the issue was brought to the notice of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and the FIR was registered at the Highway Police Station on Friday following their directive.

In accordance with the guidelines laid down in the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Circle Officer (CO) Praveen Tiwari is investigating the matter, the SHO said, adding that the investigation is currently underway. PTI COR NAV PRK
