New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said the ongoing stalemate in Parliament reflects the ruling party’s “request for discussion” and the Congress-led opposition’s “rigidness for disruption”.
Slamming the opposition, the former Union minister said on one hand there is parliamentary decency, while on the other, it is feudal anarchy.
Lashing out at the Congress and some other opposition parties, Naqvi said the rejection of the government’s request for a debate amounts to nothing more than a “destructive design by the democratically-defeated dynasty to derail discussion”.
Taking a dig at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Naqvi said his so-called hard work is proving to be “politically corrupt rather than politically correct”.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said the hypocrisy of those who loudly championed the cause of students at Jantar Mantar in the name of “Chhatron Ki Goonj” are now “hunting for faults” in the Jharkhand protest.
“Those who screamed over the use of tear gas at Jantar Mantar have now remained silent regarding its use in Jharkhand, such double standards amount to a betrayal of student interests by these political chieftains,” Naqvi told reporters here.
The logjam in Parliament is showing no sign of abating, despite the government on Monday offering a discussion on “student and youth agitations” across states and a reply by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, including on the police action against protesting students in Delhi.
That the stalemate would continue had become clear on Monday, when Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge made it plain that Shah’s response on “general things” would cut no ice and he must specifically address the circumstances surrounding the alleged use of pellet guns against students on July 20.
