Ranchi, Oct 25 (PTI) A 40-year-old revenue department official was killed at his house in Ranchi by unidentified persons, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Tetar Tola within Namkum police station limits on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Lakshmikant Munda, a resident of Bundu Block, and was posted at the Argora Circle office as a revenue sub-inspector, they said.

“Munda was attacked and killed by unidentified persons at his house. The incident came to light when he did not reach the office and was not responding to any phone calls from his colleagues. Post-mortem examination of the victim will be conducted on Sunday,” Namkum police station officer-in-charge Ramnarayan told PTI.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the murder. The motive for the killing is not yet known, but police are investigating the case from all possible angles, including robbery and old enmity. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analysed, he said.

Police found injuries on the victim’s head. DVR containing the CCTV footage of the house was missing. Further investigation is underway, the officer said. PTI RPS RPS RG

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
