Prayagraj, Jun 22 (PTI) A man accused of raping a minor girl was injured in a police encounter and subsequently arrested, police said on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya said a complaint was received from a resident of a village, alleging that one Musharraf, a resident of the same village, had sexually assaulted his minor daughter.
A case was registered under relevant sections on the basis of the written complaint.
Shandilya said during a routine checking operation late Sunday night on the road from Fatehpur Ghat to Tikri, a police team came face to face with the accused. Musharraf allegedly opened fire on the police team with intent to kill.
In retaliatory firing in self-defence by the police, the accused sustained bullet injuries in both legs, the DCP said.
An illegal country-made pistol, two live cartridges and two empty shells were recovered from his possession, he added.
The injured accused has been taken to a hospital for treatment and further legal proceedings are underway, he added. PTI RAJ KIS DV DV
