Shimla, Aug 16 (PTI) Reacting to Yoga guru Ramdev’s remark urging the Centre to fix irregularities in education and recruitment examinations, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday said Ramdev should lead a movement against corruption.

Talking to media persons here on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee — the first BJP leader to become prime minister, who died on August 16, 2018, at the age of 93 — the chief minister said if Ramdev made such a comment, something must be wrong.

Referring to the paper leak cases in Himachal, he said those involved in the leaks and those who sold the paper are still behind bars. Sukhu said no paper leaks occurred during his government’s three and a half years in office. He alleged that papers from the Police Recruitment and Selection Commission were sold during the BJP government. Sukhu said paper leaks only occur when there are instructions from above.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur reacted to Ramdev’s statement and said he does not believe the situation will match the figures provided. He said such a situation might exist in some states.

“Corruption must be eradicated, and Ramdev’s sentiments align with this direction,” he said.

On Saturday, Ramdev warned the Narendra Modi government about student protests and said the agitation could intensify, and that he might have to protest again if the Centre doesn’t fix the “ghapla” (scam) soon.

The yoga guru was referring to his earlier anti-corruption protest at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi in 2011, which ended with a police crackdown.

He called on Gen Z not to engage in violence and lawlessness, and said protests must remain within the boundaries of the Constitution.

“There is chaos everywhere in the country. Children are complaining that there are no teachers in their schools. Basic facilities like electricity, water and toilets are missing. Cheating is rampant in some places, while question papers are being leaked in others. In government job interviews, corruption runs as high as 99 per cent. Selections are being made based on caste and religion. This is highly offensive and against the Constitution,” Ramdev said while speaking to the press at Patanjali Yogpeeth on the 80th Independence Day. PTI COR ASD ASD
