Kolkata, Aug 23 (PTI) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will on Sunday attend the ground-breaking ceremony of five projects of the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd here for augmenting its infrastructure facilities, officials said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is also scheduled to be present at event of the Kolkata-headquartered defence PSU.

“The bhumi pujan of the five new facilities for augmenting GRSE’s shipbuilding capabilities will be held in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh,” an official said.

The miniratna warship builder is undertaking an expansion of facilities at its Garden Reach headquarters on the banks of the Hooghly river here.

“As part of its capacity expansion, GRSE has signed lease agreements with the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) for two small shipyards on either bank of the Hooghly, along with a 32-acre riverside property at Raichak, to enhance its capabilities in warship construction and refit,” the official said.

These projects will strengthen the capabilities of GRSE, while supporting the revival of West Bengal’s industrial ecosystem through employment generation and increased opportunities for ancillary industries, particularly MSMEs, he added. PTI AMR RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
