New Delhi: There was a band, ‘baaja’ and a procession, complete with a horse-drawn buggy. Bollywood stars Jackie Shroff and Kartik Aryan were in attendance too. It looked like a wedding procession, except that it wasn’t.

This was how Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rashi Dogra Dudi was given a farewell by her colleagues as the 2012-batch officer moved on from her role as the deputy commissioner of police at the Jaipur city north district.

The event also welcomed new DCP Karan Sharma.

Visuals of the event garnered huge social media engagement, some welcomed it as people’s show of love and affection towards an officer who served them well, while some called it a “nautanki”.

“When Indians will come out of colonial-era mindset. Why do they worship Neta and Babu God knows?(sic),” an X user said.

“I thought only leaders were part of the herd mentality (welcome with cranes trending), but ever since the videos of officials started coming out, they’ve outdone the leaders. After all, is ‘serving and protecting the nation’ just a slogan? Or do people truly understand their responsibility towards serving and protecting the nation? Worth pondering,” another said.

The event was held on the North DCP office premises, with a large number of police personnel joining in. The public also came to bid a farewell as she crossed the area from the Jaleb Chowk to Govinddevji Temple. The officer is seen wearing a turban, smiling as she sat comfortably in the buggy.

IPS officer and Sikar Superintendent of Police Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav was also given a similar farewell with music, drums and public dancing when he was recently transferred to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

A senior police officer told ThePrint, “IPS Rashi Dogra Dudi is loved and respected by all her colleagues and even the public. During her tenure, she made sure that the force remained disciplined and also worked to help the public. She tried to bridge the gap between the common man and the police.”

In her career spanning over a decade, Dudi has held multiple positions including as the Superintendent of Vigilance in the CID-CB department in Jodhpur. She has now joined as the Superintendent of Police of Jaipur rural district. The IPS officer has also served as the SP of Barmer, Hanumangarh, and Jodhpur.

Her latest transfer came as part of a major reshuffle effected in Rajasthan police force earlier this week.
