Jaipur, Jun 24 (PTI) Rajasthan government officials, industry representatives and workforce experts on Wednesday highlighted the need for greater participation of women in formal employment, saying it would be crucial for the state’s economic growth and workforce development.

The discussion took place during a discussion on “Advancing Women’s Participation in Formal Employment” organised by IPE Global under its SheWorks initiative in Jaipur.

The consultation focused on addressing barriers related to hiring, workplace inclusion, safety, career progression and retention of women employees.

“Perceptions about women in the workforce are changing and several policy and legal measures have been introduced to improve women’s participation across industries,” Rajkumar Meena, Joint Director at the Directorate of Employment, said.

He said that recent provisions relating to women’s safety during night shifts and ongoing employment fairs would help create more opportunities for women to join the workforce.

Rekha Menon, Lead, Women’s Economic Liberty at IPE Global, said that increasing women’s participation in formal employment required collective efforts to address barriers such as mobility constraints, workplace safety concerns and social norms.

Rishav Mandal, Managing Director of Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC), said that the state’s development goals would require addressing both skill gaps and socio-cultural barriers that limit women’s employment choices.
