Jaipur, Jul 14 (PTI) Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde on Tuesday held talks with Australian Consul General Paul Murphy to explore possibilities of collaboration in higher education, agricultural innovation and tribal cultural preservation, officials said.

During an informal meeting at Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan), Murphy shared information on efforts to strengthen India-Australia ties in trade, education and commerce.

Bagde called for leveraging Australia’s successful models in higher education, conservation of indigenous culture and agricultural practices suited to arid regions for the benefit of Rajasthan.

Murphy agreed to work on the possibilities of academic exchange programmes between universities in Rajasthan and Australian institutions, following the governor’s initiative.

“It was agreed that in the coming days, vice-chancellors of universities in Rajasthan and Australian academicians and university heads will engage in dialogue through video conferencing,” the statement said, adding that other academic exchange programmes and activities would also be explored.

Murphy also briefed the governor on Australian farming techniques suited for low-water and dry environments. Bagde urged that such agricultural methods be adapted to benefit Rajasthan.

The two sides also discussed preservation of tribal heritage, with Murphy agreeing to collaborate on initiatives linking the cultural heritage of Australian Aboriginal communities and Rajasthan’s tribal populations.

“In this regard, an Australian delegation will visit the West Zone Cultural Centre in Udaipur within the next one to two months to deliberate on future plans,” the statement said.

The release noted that Bagde had earlier visited Australia during his tenure as Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, where he observed best practices in civic sense, road transport, education and agriculture, and considered them useful for India.

Officials including Governor’s Secretary Dr Prithvi, Cooperation Department Secretary Dr Samit Sharma and an aide to the Australian Consul General, Najin Luth, were present during the meeting, it added. PTI AG KSI KSI
