Jaipur, Oct 5 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday directed newly elected mayors, chairpersons and heads of urban local bodies to prepare a 100-day roadmap to improve civic amenities and complete basic works before Diwali.

During an interaction with urban local body representatives at his residence, Sharma directed them to complete works related to cleanliness, roads, electricity, streetlights, sewerage, drains, painting and beautification within a month.

He asked the representatives to focus on garbage collection and disposal, waterlogging, parks, stray cattle, encroachments and other civic issues and ensure their quick resolution, according to a statement released here.

“Urban local bodies are not a post but a mission of public service,” Sharma said, urging elected representatives to regularly inspect their areas, coordinate with officials and ensure quality and timely execution of development works.

He called for city-wide planning rather than ward-wise planning for roads, sewerage and other infrastructure and stressed the need for phased development plans.

The chief minister also directed urban bodies to strengthen their finances and increase revenue while maintaining transparency, accountability and a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.

He said the state government was providing 125 days of employment to eligible people in urban areas as unskilled workers and providing free de-sludging services along with FSTP facilities in 188 urban local bodies.

Urban Development and Local Self Government Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, Chief Secretary V Srinivas, mayors and senior officials attended the meeting. Other elected representatives joined through video conference, the statement added. PTI AG PRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
