New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) The Northern Railway has approved installation of the indigenous automatic train protection system ‘Kavach’ on 712 route km of Moradabad Division at a cost of Rs 170 crore.
The implementation of the system will provide an advanced safety layer for train operations, it said.
“It will strengthen the division’s railway safety infrastructure through deployment of the indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system. The implementation of Kavach 4.0 will provide an advanced safety layer for train operations across the identified sections,” a press note from the Railway Ministry said.
Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system designed to enhance operational safety.
It helps prevent overjump of red signal by automatically applying brakes when required to avert unsafe situations. It can also control train speed in critical conditions, and significantly reduce the risk of collisions.
“The initiative forms part of Indian Railways’ continued efforts to expand Kavach coverage across its network and modernise railway signalling and train protection systems,” the Northern Railway said. PTI JP NB NB
